The vision of the RC BLAKES SR. scholarship fund is to inspire new generations of under privileged students to see higher learning as a real possibility. The goal is to encourage young dreamers and to support their academic aspirations. We are changing the world one student at a time.
The foundation is pleased to announce that 2016 inaugural scholarship recipients: Torey Pixley and Tanesha Williams.
Torey Pixley is a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School for Advanced Studies in Jefferson Parish. Torey has received the Superintendents A Honor and completed over 258 hours of community service working at Ochsner Medical Center by serving as a volunteer in the cardiology department. In addition to assisting in the hospital, Tori has volunteered by cleaning up stadiums, Marching in Mardi Gras parades, volunteered at Boo at the Zoo and the Pumpkin Patch. She also received the blood cord for donating blood at her school and she was inducted into the National English Honor Society at the end of her junior year.
Torey’s has an appreciation for arts and she loves acting and reading books. She served as a cadet in the West Jefferson R.O.T.C. for two years where she received leadership training. She was accepted to her dream school Xavier University of New Orleans where she is excited to attend because of its renowned success in producing the doctors as she desires to be a pediatrician.
Tori’s goal is to be able to show young people that if you keep God first in your life, good things will come to you. Torey said we should remember to keep the faith. Tori is the 2016 RC Blakes Scholarship recipient of the $5000 award.
Tanesha Williams is a student at Waxahacie Global High School in Waxahacie Texas. Tanesha has been noticed as student of the Month and she received an award for being on the A/B Honor. She has studied Navarro College while in high school where she finished her studies GPA 3.03. Tanesha has been accepted to University of Arlington where she intends to study Political Science. Tanesha has interned in the local municipal court. Tanesha also has 81 hours of service to the community where helped out by mowing grass, gardening, tutoring and washing cars. Tanesha believes that she has a purpose in this world and that it is to make a difference in law by using the knowledge and skills that she gains in life. Tanesha has a cumulative GPA of 3.03. She was the R. C. Blakes Sr. Scholarship Recipient for 2016 and you are to receive a scholarship in the amount of $2,500.00.
The Foundation will host is next scholarship gala on June 23, 2017 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel.
